On International Youth Day (8/12), Liaison Co-Founder Shion Seino joined Policy Specialists at World Health Organization Dr. Luis D’Souza, and United Nations University (UNU) Consultant Nanami Yamaguchi for a conversation on the rapidly shifting global health landscape and the ways in which youth can help shape its future.
The conversation was part of UNU’s International Youth Day theme, “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” which highlighted that while youth across the world face different realities, their aspirations for good health and well-being are often shared.
In addition to discussions on the current realities and challenges in global health, the speakers shared their diverse experiences that led them to where they are today, as well as advice for future leaders. For young people curious about global health, Shion recommended reading about Dr. Paul Farmer, who posed the question of “If access to health care is considered a human right, who is considered human enough to have that right?”. She also highlighted Global Citizen, the world’s largest action-taking platform, as a way for young people to get involved in tackling social issues.
Thank you to Dr. D’Souza, Ms. Yamaguchi, and the organizers at UNU for hosting this timely and important conversation.
