What is Project Echo?
Since 2018, Liaison has been dedicated to the eradication of the poliovirus. But recently, our work took on a deeply personal meaning when two of our members discovered that they have relatives who were affected by polio-related paralysis. Reminded that polio is not just a distant memory in Japan, but a disease whose impact still reverberates today, we launched Project Echo. By interviewing polio survivors across the country and bringing their voices to the forefront, we aim to bridge generations, preserve history, and inspire young people to help ensure polio is eradicated once and for all.
The name "Echo" in Project Echo carries three important meanings:
Passing Down History
As the number of polio survivors in Japan decreases, we seek to preserve and share their stories for future generations to support ongoing eradication efforts.Fostering Empathy and Support
By sharing the hardships caused by paralysis as a result of polio, we aim to foster empathy and support for continued eradication efforts.Amplifying Stories
We aim to amplify the voices of polio survivors and our commitment to eradication around the world.
